Changes

I got feedback of my teacher on how to improve my front cover, the first thing I had to do was make sure my masthead stands out more so I decided to add a glow around the title, I think it is now more bolder and looks more professional. I also added a glow around the 'Jasmine Day' section, I think this then shows she is the main focus within the magazine and makes the front cover visually more appealing.

The feedback I had on my contents page was to get rid of the block colour on the background as this doesn't look professional, so I added an effect that gives a shadow on the background. I think this now looks more appealing. Also, I added a page number on the image to show were the picture is in the magazine, this then follows conventions of a music magazine. Also, like on my front cover I have added a glow effect around the 'contents' so it is more eye-catching. Lastly, I changed the page numbers on the list and made it up to 70 as this is more conventional for a music magazine as there are regularly more than 50 pages.

I have changed the block colour from my double page spread, I think this now looks more eye catching.

Changes to my front cover

I have changed the bar code from the top to the bottom right of the page, I thought this then followed conventions of a real music magazine, or just magazines in general. I also changed the layout of some of the writing, this was mainly as I thought the LOOP now stands out more. While analysing my front cover I found that the bra strap was down her arm, I thought this was quite quirky and rebellious, I think it relates to my target audience, 15-20 and shows how she is just growing up and as a celebrity POP princess is pushing her luck a little and experimenting with her unique dress sense, such as the jewellery and her messy hair.

Changing the page numbers.

I have changed the page number for my double page spread, I found that double page spreads are found in the middle of the magazine so it can be easily found. This then has followed conventions of other music magazines.

Changes to my contents page

I decided that my contents page wasn't what I wanted it to look like, I thought the page was overall to simple so I decided to add borders around my list to make them more bolder, I thought this then made the page more eye-catching. I knew I liked my double page spread so I thought I should take element from this and add them to my contents page, I decided to use the bigger speech marks from the double page spread and added them to the contents page, I think this will entice the reader more. I also made the images of my front cover bigger, this was so it could be seen more clearly. Also, changing the general layout, moving the writing around and the image so that everything could be seen more clearly and I think the page is not more visually appealing.

Adding to my contents page

Added Page Numbers

When looking through the magazine products, I remembered that I hadn't added page numbers to the pages, so I have just made the border around the page number purple block so it can be seen easily and fits within my colour scheme.

Adding image to contents page & layout

During this lesson I have added this image. I think there is more connection between the reader and the magazine. I think the layout of the magazine now works better as it doesn't look too busy. I think there is still something missing off this contents page so I will now try adding quotes and seeing if I can improve my contents page further.

Editing pictures from my contents page

By editing this image using photoshop I decided to feather around Jasmines(image) hair I think this then gives the image a more lighter effect and will fit into my theme elegant. Also, in the image Jasmine is wearing a tiara, which is representing, 'POP Princess'. I think this image will work well on my contents page as there is direct eye contact, which will draw the reader in. The image will be placed on the right side of the page, doing this will then leave room for the writing and hopefully will not look too busy.

Contents Page Edited

I thought my contents page was to simple so I decided to change the background colour so it fitted in with my colour scheme better. by doing this I found my writing stands out more and the page is more striking. I have also decided to change the image on my contents page I thought using the picture as the background didn't work as well as I thought as the information needed on this page wasn't shown very well. By getting feedback on my contents page, I was recommended to use an image with direct eye contact so the reader is then connecting to the magazine. I will now go on to developing my contents page with a different image.

Double Page Spread Edited

I decided to edited my double page spread further, I made the image bigger so the page will stand out more, by doing this Jasmines eyes (image) make better eye contact with the reader and this then should make the audience be drawn into the page. Also, I have added a quote on the page, I thought there was room for more information on the page so decided to use a quote out of the question section, this then gives the reader more information of what the story is going to be about, Also by using big speachmarks I thought it made the page more bolder and interesting. I decided to remove I question which was on the story I thought the page looked a little to busy. I think this now works better for the double page spread as a whole.

2nd draft of double page spread

This lesson I have been editing my double page spread so that there is more detailed writing on the page. I have also been re-arranging the writing to see which layout works best with the image. I am also going to change my image on the double page spread, this is so the reader can connect to the magazine to do this I will use an image that has direct eye contact to the camera. This is one of my chosen images for the double page spread one is a raw image and the second and third images are edited using photoshop.

This is my first image I chose this image as I thought the direct eye contact would work well on one of my pages as the girl in the image didnt connect to the audience enough. I like the facial expression on this image, I think it would really arract the reader as she looks happy but I think it still looks elegant with the way she is dressed and the way she is posed. I will now go on to editing this image to see if it will then work on my double page spread
This is my image slightly edited, by using photoshop I cropped the image so she was the main focus and the audience would be connected to her. I then removed the other things out of the background so she was the main focus and so the image background didnt look messy, I think this image will work well for my double page spread as I will then zoom in on her face so that she is really noticed on the page, I may also edited the images further so the image stands out more and really focuses on just her.
This is my final edit of cropping the image, I noticed on the image before there were slight marks still left on the image where I had tried to get ride of the background. I will now start to use this image in my magazine, trying different layouts and finding out whether this image works better than the previous. If I think this image works well I will the go on to editing more intense using photoshop, using different effects to see which work best. On the other hand if I think this image fails on the double page spread I will choose another that I think will work and also edited that image further.
